Last week one of the children in Foundation Phase suggested they could express their thoughts on ‘being proud’ by creating a colour. The rest of the group immediately wanted to share what their colour would be.
So, this week the children have each created a colour and named it. On Friday, they each stood up and shared with the group the name of their colour and the reason for it.
After listening to their thinking, I attempted to summarise: ‘Proud is a good thing, proud is when we feel happy.’
All but one child agreed with this statement. He explained, ‘I disagree because when I feel proud it doesn’t change the whole world. I am happy, but it’s not going to make a difference.’
We were left thinking, ‘Does the world need to change?’
