iMatter Children and Family Work Conference 2016

iMatter Children and Family Work Conference 2016

On 30th July 2016 the fourth iMatter day conference took place at Grace Family Church in Umhlanga. One hundred and forty people attended from 20 different churches and NPO’s. The aim of the iMatter conference is to provide a place where Christians from around the city who are working with children and families can interact, be inspired and leave with their passion for their work re-ignited.

As the planning team prayed about 2016 they really felt that God was saying that this years conference needed to be a space where children and family workers could come and be refreshed, be reminded of their purpose and given tools to help them to put those plans into action. Psalm 23 verse 3 from the Message version summed up what they felt God was saying ‘You let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction’.  This became the theme for the 2016 conference and it therefore followed a different pattern from previous years with less workshops and longer main sessions which provided creative opportunities where people could ‘catch their breath’ and  so hear from God.

The morning main session focused on Psalm 23 with Tiba, our keynote speaker, sharing about the shepherd heart of God and us as His sheep. We then led everyone in a Lectio Divina (a traditional Benedictine practice off meditating on scripture) using the first few verses of this psalm. The morning session closed with space for people to explore further what God had said to them through using some of the many creative prayer stations that were spread out around the room.

Six workshops were then available from which people could attend two. These workshops covered a variety of topics such as managing a small group, evaluating your ministry, creative storytelling etc.   The day closed with a time of worship and communion and the opportunity for delegates to be prayed for by the team.

“I want to commend you for facilitating and hosting an outstanding conference.  I had the privilege of bringing 8 people from our NGO and we all thoroughly enjoyed the time with you.  I feel like it was quite life-changing…. thank you!”   Delegate Feedback
