NPO KNOW HOW 4: MONITORING AND EVALUATION
The first NPO Know How course has now come to an end. Our last day on the 12th of November was incredibly informative thanks to the dedication of our outside facilitators Siboniso Nzuzu, Tim Napier & Mandy Cox!
About 25 people from 11 organisations joined us to learn about Monitoring and Evaluation. We found that this topic is often met with avoidance, fear and a bit of disgust at many NPO’s.
But we learned during the day that if we make monitoring and evaluation a part of our regular work, when we implement the principles when we plan a project, set our goals, and develop performance indicators we can actually make our lives easier. The very skilled facilitators took us through the theory, explained terms like; input, output, impact, indicators, in a way that made sense for everyone involved in NPO work. We ended the day with a ‘mock’ donor conference where different groups representing NPO’s had to apply to a group of donors for funding- some went home with some serious stacks of fake dollars, others learned that their pitch still needed a bit of work…
But all of us went away with a better understanding of Monitoring and Evaluation!
We hope to run a second NPO Know How course next year from August – November 2014, with some similar topics, and possibly some new topics as well. Let Renske Fitzjohn now if you are interested in attending.
